I came to South Korea with no friends, understood very little Korean and lived in the countryside where the expat and english speaking population was non-existent. Meeting people and making friends became an unexpectedly challenging task. Expat life should be exciting, fun, and full of adventure, however, the reality is that daily life as an expat can be difficult, frustrating, and highly demotivating.
